Family Ties

this is my younger sister and a portrait of my grandmothers family. my parents were the first of my family to be born in the USA. the grandparents and my great-grandparents were all born in Poland and Sweden. The family in the framed portrait is the family of my grandmother.
there are now, incredible differences between me and my sisters' generations and that of my grandparents and further. the girl holding the frame is my younger sister...proving with the hair and the socks the difference between the conservative half-starving people in her hands, and her with a lazy stoic expression...
this is...me and my family.

technical: natural light, big window off to our right, fujifilm finepix S5100, family.
PS: blakc and white process, sepia tone, border, and watermark.

i am at my grandmothers house and her monitor is super OLD, therefore, when in PS i sent this image into B&W, there was a strong magenta tone in its place. big problemo. im assuming that this image looks what i want to, i just have to consciously subtract magenta in order to see what it might look like. can someone attempt to expolain to me in detail what this image looks like? in the way of colour? etc?
